Zoom!

The stars quite literally aligned for The Art Room this week as an extraordinary, real-life, planetary parade took place in the skies above Harpenden, which could not have been a better complement to our celestial art theme!

Our preschoolers got very busy cutting, sticking and painting a galaxy of shooting stars and paper plate planets and had enormous fun building their very own space rockets to zoom out of the Art Room at the end of a fun-filled class.

Our younger after school class expanded the idea of stargazing by using their painting skills to print, flick and brush colour onto black paper and create a space scene that put themselves at the very heart of their composition. It was such a joy to see their enthusiasm as they proudly zipped and whooshed themselves around in their completed spacecraft.

Finally, our oldest artists produced spectacular visual displays of outer space by focusing on the details and colours of individual planets, stars and galaxies. Exploring art techniques we have shared over past weeks, they relished their mission to fill the black expanse of the paper by painting their interpretation of the solar system with dazzling results!

The Art Room endeavours to go to the moon and back each week to carefully plan each age group’s themed activity to offer innovative and inspiring projects. We hope they not only help to nurture the artistic enthusiasm of all our artists but also help to develop other skills that can come from taking creative decisions and having the time and space to dip into the imagination. Our journey continues ‘up in the air’ next week; can’t wait to see where our artists will take us!
