The ❤ Room

Love was in the air this week in the Art Room as we made lots of swoon-some art works that were inspired by the traditions and symbols associated with Valentine’s Day, celebrated across the world on 14 February.

Our preschoolers made fabulously expressive paintings that they could take home at the end of the class and give to someone special. Using colourful, abstract paintings by famous artists as a reference, each child was encouraged to make their own versions of the artwork by replicating colours, shapes and patterns. It was a wonderful exercise in observation, conversation and exploration as colours were mixed and paint was brushed, swirled and daubed across the paper. But best of all it was a lovely moment of togetherness shared by each of our little artists and their carers.

After school our younger class chose to work with the symbol of love to make colourful paper heart spinners to hang up and cherish at home after class. The abundance of care and attention that was poured into each creation was plain to see and everyone enjoyed learning how to make their own paper beads, hand crafted from colourful strips of paper. We absolutely loved the finished results!

The theme of gifting continued in our last class of the day as delightful bouquets of flowers and scrumptious looking boxes of chocolates were handmade with love in watercolour and oil pastel by our oldest artists. It was lovely to see so many techniques, explored in The Art Room over the past few weeks, be used with growing confidence by all our artists to reimagine an idea and, in embracing their own creativity, make it their own.

With love,
