of The Art Room

At The Art Room, we believe that art can help our young artists understand themselves, others and the world around them. By embracing the challenges, messiness and mistakes inevitably made as their ideas take shape, we encourage the conversations, problem-solving and perseverance that will boost their self-esteem and enthusiasm for creativity.

Our art programme is kaleidoscopic – varied and colourful, fun and responsive. Some weeks we might encourage spontaneous expression and experimentation on a large-scale. Other sessions might zoom in to focus on detailed observation and accuracy, developing an understanding of the elements of art that, over time, will elevate the quality of our students’ artwork.  Our mixed age sessions are linked by themes that dip and dive into art history, the world around us, literature, popular culture and many other thought-provoking stimuli to engage the imaginations of our students.

We aim to foster a sense of belonging at The Art Room, where everyone learns from each other.  To support our effort in helping creativity flourish, we offer voluntary experience placements to secondary school students, such as those working towards their Duke of Edinburgh award, and value the contribution they can bring from our wider community.

We want our young artists to feel confident in exploring their creativity without the fear of mistakes or doing things wrong. A positive mindset is always encouraged through conversation and reflection to help learning and growth, which can develop life skills and self-belief that reach far beyond The Art Room.

Sometimes we can’t express how we feel, but we can draw it and this is true no matter our age or stage.
