Leave it to us…
This week in The Art Room, we took inspiration from the world around us and our art was filled with the beautiful shapes and colours of autumn.
Pumpkins provided our starting point and the focus of our teaching. This vibrant autumn fruit combines the rounded shape we have been exploring over the last few weeks with the warm and earthy colours of the season. We practised some simple drawing techniques and drew on our watercolour knowledge to add realism and depth to our creations with colourful washes, shadowy touches and subtle highlights. We were delighted by the abundance of pumpkins presented for display in the classroom, as unique on paper as they are varied in nature.
The children strengthened their watercolour skills by experimenting further with leaf shapes and autumnal landscape elements for the remainder of the session and filled The Art Room with a glorious palette of reds, warm orange, golden yellows, russets, soft purples and green. It’s always such a pleasure to help their ideas grow from a simple theme and to see where their imaginations will take them next!
Gone in a flash, Autumn 1 is now complete and next week we will be taking a break for half term. It has been a real pleasure supporting your children on their creative journey over the past six weeks and we have loved the positive energy and enthusiasm they bring to The Art Room every Thursday. Thinking back to the themes of our opening session and encapsulated in the story The Dot, our group of young artists have surpassed our expectations in ‘making their mark’ and have shown creativity, courage and collaboration in abundance.
Classes resume on Thursday 7 November for another six weeks with plenty more exciting activities for your children to lose themselves in mindful exploration and self-discovery each Thursday afternoon. Book early for Autumn 2 and snap up our discounted price.
Have a wonderful half term break and stay in touch with The Art Room and our arty activities on our social pages.
